The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that motorists can expect traffic shifts on I-10 on July 31.
On Wednesday, July 31, I-10 eastbound traffic will shift to the left between I-49 and LA 328 (Breaux Bridge exit). Motorists will travel on two newly constructed lanes while crews construct new center/outside lanes and a shoulder. In early August, westbound traffic will also shift to the left. This configuration is expected to be in place until March 2020.
The traffic shift is part of widening projects on I-10 that are partially funded by the $60 million FASTLANE grant and an additional $40 million grant, both received in 2016. Another widening project between LA 328 and LA 347 is expected to begin in fall 2019. Once all these projects are complete, nearly 15 miles of I-10 between I-49 and the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge will have new pavement and an additional westbound lane. I-10 eastbound will have an additional lane between I-49 and LA 347.
All dates and activity are weather dependent. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with extreme caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
