On a recent trip to New Orleans via I-10, I stopped in Schulenburg, Texas to get some gas. Since it was about lunch time and I was a little ahead of schedule I thought I might spend a bit more time for a not so quick bite to eat. Located right off the exit was Oakridge Smokehouse Restaurant. This unassuming roadside diner was an unexpected treat.
Oakridge Smokehouse is more than just a restaurant; it’s a true Texas experience. From the moment I stepped inside, the aroma of slow-cooked barbecue hit me like a ton of bricks. The friendly staff, were quick to make me feel right at home, and I was more than ready to get down to business.
The menu at Oakridge Smokehouse made it difficult to choose… everything sounded so good. Whether you’re a fan of brisket, chicken, or burgers, this place has it all. I ended up choosing their smoked brisket plate, with soup and a salad.
For anyone traveling on I-10, Oakridge Smokehouse is a must-stop destination. It’s an authentic Texan experience. You won’t be disappointed.

Sounds a lot like “Rudy’s”, another Texas BBQ joint.
