The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is urging all motorists to prioritize safety on the roads during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend. For the safety of the traveling public and construction and maintenance workers, ALDOT announces no temporary lane closures will take place on Alabama interstates from noon on Friday, June 30 until midnight on Tuesday, July 4.

The Fourth of July holiday weekend often sees an increase in traffic volume, making it more important that drivers remain undistracted and responsible while driving. ALDOT is sharing these safety tips to help drivers stay safe on the road.

Buckle Up ā€“ Seatbelts reduce the risk of serious injuries and fatalities. Being properly restrained is the best defense against injury in the event of a crash.

Eliminate Distractions ā€“ Keep focus on the road by avoiding distractions such as texting, scrolling or talking on the phone. It only takes a split second for a crash to occur.

Avoid Impaired Driving ā€“ For the safety of everyone in the car and on the road, never get behind the wheel of a car under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other substances that impair driving.

Slow Down – Speeding increases the likelihood of serious or fatal crashes and reduces the driverā€™s ability to react to the unexpected.
