Drivers should prepare for wet conditions along Phoenix-area freeways due to this week’s winter storm, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. With the National Weather Service forecasting rain, especially on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, drivers should slow down on wet pavement and focus on other safe driving behaviors.

No construction or maintenance closures are scheduled on Valley freeways between Wednesday afternoon and Monday morning, December 2, during the Thanksgiving weekend. Drivers should exercise caution and obey lower speed limits within existing freeway improvement project work zones.

In addition to slowing down on wet roadways, other safe driving tips include allowing extra following distance behind vehicles in front of you. Avoid driving in areas where standing water is on the roadway. It’s a good idea to check the condition of windshield wipers before wet weather arrives.
