Closures, Detours for I-10 Construction in El Paso

The Texas Department of Transportation reports the following traffic impacts associated with I-10 construction in El Paso:

Sunland Park

57-Hour Weekend Closure
9 p.m. Friday, May 4 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 7

  • I-10 in both directions will close between the Sunland Park exit and entrance ramps.
  • The Sunland Park flyover entrance ramp to I-10 eastbound will close.
  • All Sunland Park Drive overpasses in both directions will close.
  • The Resler entrance ramp to I-10 east will close.
  • Detour: I-10 traffic will exit at Sunland Park (Exit 13) and immediately re-enter I-10 at the next ramp.
  • Crews will be demolishing the Sunland Park Drive overpass.
  • Note: There will be an interruption of work on Sunday, May 6, from 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. During this time, southbound traffic on Sunland Park Drive will be allowed access across the Sunland Park overpass.

I-10 both directions near Sunland
Continuous, 24/7. Starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, May 7 and until further notice

  • I-10 in both directions will reduce to two lanes for a distance of 3,500 feet between Sunland Park Drive and the Buena Vista area.
    Crews begin work to replace the pavement and traffic barrier rail in the median of I-10.

Sunland Park

57-Hour Weekend Closure
9 p.m. Friday, May 11 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 14

  • I-10 in both directions will be closed at the Sunland Park exit and entrance ramps.
  • Sunland Park Drive southbound will close between Mesa Hills Drive and Paisano Drive (US 85).
  • The Sunland Park Drive northbound overpass will close.
  • The Sunland Park entrance ramp to I-10 westbound will close.
  • The Sunland Park flyover entrance ramp to I-10 eastbound will close.
  • The Resler entrance ramp to I-10 East will close.
  • Detours: I-10 westbound traffic will exit at Sunland (Exit 13) and follow Sunland Park Drive to North Mesa Street (SH 20), then follow North Mesa Street (SH 20) to re-enter I-10 westbound from the North Mesa entrance ramp. I-10 eastbound traffic will exit at Sunland (Exit 13) and immediately re-enter I-10 at the next ramp.
  • Crews will be removing 28 massive steel girders from the old Sunland flyover ramp.
  • Note: Oversized vehicles and high clearance vehicles may have a different detour route during these closures. Find more information on oversize permits and routes.
  • A third 57-hour weekend closure may be needed May 18 – 21 if work does not progress as planned. Progress could be impeded by factors such as wind.
