The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reports that crews with the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project recently reached a milestone in late May as they finished setting the final concrete girders over lanes of I-10 to connect the ramps that will link the interstate to State Route 143.

Workers are now constructing the bridge decks, which is the part of the bridge vehicles drive on. Crews expect to open the bridge connecting southbound SR 143 to eastbound I-10 and the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) ramp connecting SR 143 and I-10 later this year. Nearly 300 girders were laid on 16 bridges as part of the project.

Ramp Closures at I-10 and 32nd Street

Crews reopened the eastbound I-10 off-ramp at 32nd Street earlier this month. This closure allowed crews to reconfigure the ramp for the wider freeway configuration. In this area, crews are adding an additional travel lane, and an additional HOV lane on I-10.

Later this month, construction crews plan to close the westbound I-10 on-ramp at 32nd Street for a similar ramp reconfiguration. Drivers can expect the closure to last into August. During the closure, motorists may use the westbound I-10 on-ramp at 40th Street instead. This is the final long-term ramp closure at 32nd Street.

Plan Ahead: Long-Term Closures and Restrictions

There are several long-term closures and restrictions underway or soon-to-be underway in the project area.

On June 14, crews will close 52nd Street in both directions between 14th Street and Broadway Road for a traffic shift. They expect the closure to last into July.

Workers closed the eastbound I-10 off-ramp at Baseline Road for ramp reconfiguration in May and are on track to reopen that ramp in July. During the closure, motorists may continue on eastbound I-10, exit at Elliot Road, turn left onto eastbound Elliot Road to access westbound I-10 and exit at Baseline Road.

Later this year, crews have the following long-term closures planned:

Northbound 48th Street between Broadway Road and I-10.Guadalupe Road between Pointe Parkway and Calle Sahuaro. The HOV ramps that connect US 60 and I-10.Westbound I-10 off-ramp at Broadway Road.
