The Mississippi Department of Transportation has opened all lanes of the Interstate 10 Widening Project in Jackson County. This project widens I-10 from four to six lanes between Ocean Springs and Vancleave.
āThe widening of I-10 is a great thing for commuters and business in the area,ā said Southern Transportation Commissioner Tom King. āExpanding the roadway will let more traffic and commerce travel to and through Jackson County.ā
In addition to adding a lane in each direction, six bridges along I-10 were widened as part of this project.
While all travel lanes are open to traffic, motorists should expect intermittent closures as highway crews work to place permanent striping, install safety guardrails and install overhead sign trusses.
āWorkers will continue to be on the roadway, so drivers should be on alert as they travel through this still active work zone,ā King said.
Multiple weather events delayed completion; however, the project is expected to be completely finished in early spring 2018.
