The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reports that work is progressing on the new I-10/P.J. Adams Interchange (Future Exit 53) and on the adjacent I-10 resurfacing project in Crestview. March activities focused on roadway grading, mechanically stabilized earth wall construction, and drainage system installation.

Crews are working to mill and resurface I-10 from west of the Yellow River to mile marker 52 and from mile marker 54 to east of the Shoal River at mile marker 60. Crews are currently installing shoulder gutters. These gutters aid in stormwater management by channeling stormwater runoff to drainage structures off the roadway. The collection and conveyance of stormwater away from the travel lanes increases safety by reducing hazards like hydroplaning, extends the lifespan of the roadway, and prevents erosion of adjacent soils.

Additionally, wall panels being constructed alongside the I-10 travel lanes. These walls are essential for reinforcing compacted soil in areas where space constraints prevent constructing gradually sloping embankments. The walls support the elevated travel lanes and minimize movement or settlement.

There is also ongoing work in the area known as the “swoosh,” where the P.J. Adams Parkway extension will turn north and cross beneath the new I-10 overpass. (It’s called “the swoosh” because from the air it resembles the Nike logo.) Recent activities in this section have centered on roadway grading and the installation of key drainage infrastructure.

Work on the I-10 resurfacing project is anticipated for completion mid 2025, while the interchange construction is estimated for completion in late 2026. Drivers are reminded that the speed limit between mile markers 50 and 58 is reduced to 60 mph for safety.
