The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that oversized and overweight vehicle travel on all state and federal highways will be prohibited beginning Monday, December 24, through Wednesday, December 26; along with Monday, December 31, through Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
āOur top priority is the safety of all motorists traveling Mississippi highways during the upcoming holidays,ā said Melinda McGrath, P.E., MDOT executive director. āWith increased traffic volume on Mississippiās highways, prohibiting oversized loads during the holidays is one more way MDOT is working to increase the safety of the traveling public.ā
All permits issued for daylight movement only are prohibited on Sundays with the exception of sealed containers. Movement after noon the day before and the entire day of a legal holiday is prohibited.
MDOT also reminds the public to share the road safely with log trucks by leaving enough space between vehicles, especially at night.
